Speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, Charly Boy said his youngest daughter came out as a lesbian years ago, while his eldest daughter recently made a similar disclosure.
He admitted that it was initially difficult for him to accept his youngest daughter’s decision, particularly because she had not had children at the time. However, he said he eventually accepted their choices because he believes parents cannot control the lives of their adult children.
Charly Boy, who said his eldest daughter has six children and a great-grandchild, stressed that his priority is the happiness and independence of his daughters.
He said he did not want to become a rigid father and chose instead to remain supportive of his children, provided they were responsible for themselves.
“As long as you’re standing on your own two feet and not asking me for money, their life is their life. At the end of the day, it all comes down to love,” he said.
The entertainer also said his approach to parenting has evolved, particularly in dealing with millennials and members of Generation Z.
According to him, parents can advise their adult children and help them consider the consequences of their decisions, but the era of controlling them through commands and punishment is over.
“As a parent, I’ve learnt that with millennials and Gen Zs, you don’t tell them what to do; you can only advise them and try to get them to see the logical side of what you’re putting across for them to take, leave or trash,” he said.
Charly Boy added that his decision to speak openly about his family is consistent with his personality and the views he has expressed publicly over the years.
